For the oven Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Spread coconut in an even, single layer on an ungreased baking dish. 2. Bake coconut until it shows light-golden "toastiness." If your oven heats unevenly, give the coconut a stir halfway through. Pay attention in the final minutes because coconut can burn easily. Unsweetened flakes: 5-7 minutes Unsweetened chips: 8-10 minutes Sweetened flakes: 10-12 minutes
For the microwave 1. Spread coconut in an even, single layer on an ungreased, microwave-safe dish. 2. Microwave for 1 minute at a time on high, stirring in between. Since every microwave is different, leave the time up to your discretion. We got nicely toasted, unsweetened chips after 3 minutes.
