This recipe is perfect for celebrating the 4th of July! Gotta love that red, white and blue! Warm, delicious and oh so patriotic! The best part is you can make it ahead!
Ingredients: Brioche or challah bread (I used one brioche baguette), slice 1 inch thick 1 cup blueberries 1 cup raspberries 1 cup half and half (or you can use milk for a less decadent pudding) 3 eggs 2 tablespoons sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Do ahead: For best results leave your sliced bread out on the counter overnight. Stale bread makes the yummiest bread pudding. If you don't have time there is no need to worry. Just skip this and go ahead to step 1.
Directions: 1. Arrange bread slices in your baking dish (we used an 8" x 8" dish, but make do with what you have) 2. Fill the spaces with berries. Really pack them in there, don't be scared 3. In a small bowl whisk together half and half, eggs, sugar, salt and nutmeg. Pour mixture evenly over bread and berries. 4. Refrigerate for 1 hour. This gives the bread time to absorb the egg mixture. In the mean time preheat the oven to 350F degrees. 5. Bake for 35 minutes, until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
